Staying focused while living in chaos

Let's face it: households with kid(s) will never be calm nor quiet.  So, trying to find a "quiet zone" is nothing less than wishful thinking.  Might as well grab a whistle and join in the fun!

The challenge any career focused person in such an environment will face is being able to remain on task while trying not to step on "Sophie the Giraffe" or activate the laughing monkey or step on cutlery from the dollhouse or trip over the toy stethoscope that never finds its way back to its home.  I guess we are forced to have tunnel vision: eliminate the distraction and focus in on what's necessary.

I've started following @ericthomasbtc who's a famous motivational speaker with a pretty intense, sports flair.  He's all about putting your goggles on and getting the job done and he's very quick to tell you that "nobody owes you nothing".  It's true, but unfortunately, many of us fail at understanding this as we have a sense of entitlement, where we believe we're owed something because we endured hardship, or that it's just our right.

The reality is that if we don't continue to stay focused and motivated, we'll quickly fall off track.  This is important for LAAD, because as DADS, our sole focus is to ensure we do everything we can today, to ensure our family, our children, have no struggle tomorrow.  Simply put: failing at focusing is not an option!

How do we then drown out the noise, reinvigorate the passion, and make something happen? Simple: know that our success (or failure) has a direct impact on all that's important to us. Using the excuse that "I don't have time" or "it's too crazy" or "I'm tired" are your way of showing the world that you feel you're entitled. If it's important to you (and your family) then it's on you to make sure it gets done.

The chaotic lives or unpredictability of tomorrow is the inevitable path of a family man: deal with it, work around it, embrace it, make it happen.
